After the Kosovo Campaign, the 100th was again re-activated as a flying training squadron at Randolph AFB, Texas, equipped with Beechcraft T-6 Texan II, Raytheon T-1 Jayhawk and Northrop T-38C Talon trainers.
Craig T. Nelson received familiarization rides in USAF jets at Edwards Air Force Base during the filming of the series, including flights in the T-38 Talon, the F-4 Phantom II, and the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
He would acquire more than 6,000 hours flying in a Convair C-131 Samaritan, Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, Cessna T-37 Tweet, Northrop T-38 Talon, Convair F-102 Delta Dagger, Cessna O-2 Skymaster, Cessna A-37 Dragonfly, Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, and General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon.
He has accumulated more than 3,000 flying hours in a Cessna T-41 Mescalero, Cessna T-37 Tweet, Northrop T-38 Talon, the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, Fairchild C-26 Metroliner, and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon.
An additional four (Elliot See, Charles Bassett, Theodore Freeman, and Clifton Williams) were killed in T-38 plane crashes during training for space flight during the Gemini and Apollo programs.
