unusual facts about Novotny

Cigarette filter

Using standard tests adopted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Novotny and other researchers discovered that a cigarette butt soaked in a liter of water for four days will kill both the topsmelt and the freshwater fathead minnow fish species.

Franz Nikolaus Novotny

Franz Nikolaus Novotny (also Novotný, Novittni, Novotni, Nowotny) (6 December 1743, Eisenstadt – 25 August 1773) was an Austrian organist and composer of Bohemian descent at the Esterházy court in Schloss Esterházy in Eisenstadt.

Jan Šejna

Novotný was finally replaced by Alexander Dubček, a reform-minded member of the Czechoslovak party presidium, as leader of the party.

Plachutta

The Plachutta is related to a number of other problem themes: it can be regarded as a Würzburg-Plachutta brought about by a white sacrifice on the critical square (a Würzburg-Plachutta itself being a pair of Holzhausen interferences); or it can be thought of as a Novotny with similarly moving (rather than differently moving) black pieces involved (a Novotny itself being a Grimshaw brought about by a white sacrifice on the critical square).
