unusual facts about Odawa people

Chippewas of Saugeen Ojibway Territory

The Chippewas of Saugeen Ojibway Territory are a member of the Council of Three Fires of the Ojibway, Odawa and Potawatomi Nations.

Though predominantly Ojibway, due to large influx of refugees from the south and west after the War of 1812, the descendents of the Chippewas of Saugeen Ojibway Territory also have ancestry traced to Odawa and Potawatomi peoples.

McGulpin Point Light

An invocation by Frank Ettawageshik, of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, was followed by a "stirring performance by four Native American drummers." The official relighting was switched on by United States Senator Debbie Stabenow and James Tamlyn, Emmet County Board of Commissioners chairman.

Woodlands style

The majority of the Woodland artists belong to the Anishinaabeg - notably the Ojibwe (also Ojibwa), Odawa, and Potawatomi, as well as the Oji-Cree and the Cree.
