Thousands of square miles of Appalachian hardwood trees surround the Beech Fork Lake area, providing a habitat for wood warblers, vireos, thrushes, chats, cuckoos, ovenbirds, and many other forest dwelling birds.
However, that genus name had already been given to the Curve-billed Reedhaunter (L. curvirostris), an ovenbird.
Also known as the Red Ovenbird, it is common in savannas, second-growth scrub, pastures and agricultural land and is synanthropic.
