Its very first appearance was on Ask.com/television in September 2001; it later appeared on CBC Television on January 1, 2004, then began to air on Family the following September, and was introduced to PBS Kids Sprout in the U.S. beginning in June 2006.
Out of the Blue, along with The Fred Rogers Company and 9 Story Entertainment, is also producing a spin-off of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, entitled Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, which debuted on PBS Kids and PBS Kids Sprout on September 3, 2012.
On the cartoon Dragon Tales which airs on PBS Kids Sprout (SPRT), the characters Zak and Wheezie use Knuckerholes to slide underground as a means of quick travel.
