During an interview in January, 2007 he expressed his interest in contending for the Mayor office of his native town of Parácuaro, Michoacán, under the left-wing Party of the Democratic Revolution, of which he is an active member.
He was drawn into politics in his twenties, spending five days in jail for his involvement in a university strike and becoming a founding member of the Unified Socialist Party of Mexico (PSUM, 1987), the Mexican Socialist Party (PMS, 1987) and the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD, 1989) which he left in April 1991.
The Pact for Mexico is a national political agreement signed on December 2, 2012 in the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City by the president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, as well as Gustavo Madero Muñoz, the president of the National Action Party; Cristina Díaz, the acting chair of the Institutional Revolutionary Party; and Jesús Zambrano Grijalva, chair of the Party of the Democratic Revolution.
After this incident, a written complaint of zoning violations was presented to the borough delegate, Virginia Jaramillo of the Party of the Democratic Revolution, of Cuauhtémoc, D.F., the borough of Federal District (D.F.) where the hotel is located.
