He moved up the ranks over the years from union council president to district president of Swabi.He was initially appointed as the provincial President of PTI in 2008 till 2011 when the provincial leadership was dissolved by Chairman PTI Imran Khan prior to the Intra-Party elections.On March 2013, he swept the Intra Party elections by defeating Parvez Khattak with only 14 votes.
