Philip Gidley King, the third governor of the Australian state of New South Wales.
The genus name was chosen to honour both King and his father Philip Gidley King, who was Governor of New South Wales during Brown's voyage under Flinders.
The ticket system was first introduced by Governor Philip Gidley King in 1801.
