Some buildings resemble the Potala Palace in Lhasa with their use of height and vertical lines.
Traditionally located within the Potala Palace, and charged with various ritual tasks connected with the Dalai Lama, the parent monastery in 1959 relocated to Dharamsala along with the Tibetan exile government.
On 24 September 1720 Yunti's army captured Lhasa and returned the Dalai Lama back to the Potala Palace.
