In December 1983, the station was acquired by Kawartha Broadcasting and in 1987 ownership passed to the broadcasting arm of Power Corporation of Canada.
The corporate name changed to Power Broadcasting Inc. in 1989.
Ney sat on the Boards of Directors of several corporations, including Barrick Gold, Power Corporation of Canada and Mattel.
The network was launched by the CBC, in partnership with a subsidiary of Power Corporation of Canada in 1994, and aired much of the same programming as CBC Newsworld in Canada.

Sérigny is close to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, heads numerous companies, and a member of the board of directors of Imerys, a mining company partially owned by a subsidiary of the Power Corporation of Canada and majority owned by the Desmarais family and tycoon Albert Frère, the richest man in Belgium who was involved in the UN Oil-for-Food scandal.
