Alexandra was born during the regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu, to a prolific playwright and poet father (Dinu Grigorescu) who later became the deputy Governor of Bucharest and Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Romania, and a French teacher mother (Despina Grigorescu).
The current Governor is Mugur Isărescu, the longest continuous serving Governor, with a one year interrumpion between December 1999 and December 2000, when he served as Prime Minister.

Following the resignation of Liviu Dragnea (PSD) from the office of Minister of Administration and Interior, on February 2, 2009, the Parliament voted to unify the post of Deputy Prime Minister with the post of Minister of Administration and Interior.
In September 1990 he became Governor of the National Bank of Romania, a position that he has retained since (except for the short period when he served as Prime Minister).
Along with the founder of the law Marius Marinescu, signed as co-founders, senators Ion Iliescu, former president of Romania, Nicolae Văcăroiu, former prime-minister of Romania and at the time president of the Senate.
Victor Ciorbea, the first president of the CSDR went on to become Prime Minister of Romania in 1996
