He died in 1989 in Arkhangelsk, and was buried in a village of Izhma, Primorsky District.

Administratively, the coast and the islands are shared between Kemsky and Belomorsky Districts of the Republic of Karelia, and Onezhsky, Primorsky, and Solovetsky Districts of Arkhangelsk Oblast.
Municipally, it is the administrative center of Solovetskoye Rural Settlement of Primorsky District.
On April 3, 1954 Primorsky District was abolished and merged into Roshchinsky District, with the administrative center in Roshchino.
