He received his musical training at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève and the Accademia d'arte lirica in Osimo, Italy, and perfected his vocal technique through further studies with Mario del Monaco and Ettore Campogalliani, who was also the teacher of Luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni, and Renata Tebaldi.
More serious roles he recorded include the King of Egypt in two recordings of Aida with Renata Tebaldi, Mathieu in Andrea Chénier, also with Tebaldi, two recordings of the Bonze in Madama Butterfly with both Anna Moffo and Leontyne Price, and the Gessler in Rossini's Guglielmo Tell (William Tell) with Giuseppe Taddei and Rosanna Carteri.
Monsalve started his vocal studies the 2001 in Viña del Mar at the Conservatory "Izidor Handler" and from the 2004 continued his studies in Italy learning the technique of Ettore Campogalliani, teacher of Renata Tebaldi, Luciano Pavarotti, Renata Scotto, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Ruggero Raimondi, and other big singers,and also with the soprano Mirella Freni.
