East Hesse Highlands

Between the Hohe Meißner (754 m) and Kaufungen Forest (up to 643 m high) in the north, the Knüll (636 m) in the centre, the Vogelsberg (773 m) in the southwest and the Rhön (950 m) in the southeast, there are numerous individual singularities which catalogue the volcanic activity between the two Central Uplands regions.

South of the Fulda-Haune Plateau and west of the Rhön are the Lower und High Vogelsberg hills, the former encircling the latter.

Ehrenberg, Hesse

Ehrenberg touches the municipalities Hilders (rural district Fulda) in the north, Birx (Thuringia), the town Fladungen (Bavaria), the municipality Hausen (also Bavaria) and the town Oberelsbach (also Bavaria) the east, the town Gersfeld (district Fulda) in the south and the municipality Poppenhausen (district Fulda) in the west.

Fred Slingsby

Rentwertshausen–Römhild railway

It was just under 11 kilometres long and ran from Rentwertshausen to Römhild in the south Thuringian region of Grabfeld.

Schleicher Rhönadler

About 1931 the glider manufacturer Alexander Schleicher went to Hans Jacobs, then at the RRG (Rhön-Rossitten Gesellschaft) on the Wasserkuppe, for glider design that, like the RRG Fafnir designed by Alexander Lippisch, was capable making long cross country by travelling quickly between thermals but could be put into series production making it cheaper to build.
