In 1234 the bishop was accused of supporting Richard Marshall's rebellion, but he cleared his name before the court.
The adversaries were men loyal to King Henry III of England on one side, and on the other side Richard Marshal, Earl of Pembroke and Lord of Leinster who lost the battle and later died from the wounds he suffered.
On the death of Isabelle de Clare, his son William Marshal, 2nd Earl of Pembroke gave his brother Richard his land in Normandy or the honours of Longueville and Orbec.
