Bradford Abbas

The name of the village signifies the "Abbot's broad ford" on the River Ivel, the abbot in question being that of Sherborne; the land was given to Sherborne Abbey by King Alfred the Great.

Lower Caldecote

Most of Lower Caldecote is situated directly to the west of the A1 road, though one farm and a sand and gravel extraction site lie on the eastern side of the A1 extending to the River Ivel.
