unusual facts about River Mole

Betchworth

Mammoth fossilised bone remains have been found below flint beds under considerable clay in the low hills by the bank of the River Mole in Betchworth.

Hampton Court Bridge

The work required the demolition of a small hotel (The Old Castle) and, to the south, diversion of the flow of the River Mole into the River Ember, formerly the secondary distributary of the Mole.

River Ember

As such the River Mole was similar to two other Thames tributaries, the Colne and the Cherwell in having more than one channel in its lowest stretch.

Rusper

It is on the watershed between the River Arun to the west and the River Mole to the east, with predominantly weald clay soils.

Seething Wells

However the inlets here sucked up too much mud with the water because of turbulence caused by the River Mole, River Ember and The Rythe.
