Kingston on Soar

The River Soar does not pass through the village, but very close by to the west.


Leicester Abbey

Lionel Tollemache, 8th Earl of Dysart, sold the land east of the River Soar (known as Abbey Meadows) in 1876; this was to allow Leicester Town Council to undertake flood prevention work.

Leicester City Centre

The historic city of Leicester was founded by the Romans at the crossing of the River Soar by the Fosse Way, between the current path of the river and the modern Gallowtree Gate.

River Eye, Leicestershire

It then passes Sysonby, where, at Sysonby Lodge it changes its name to the River Wreake, which flows into the River Soar.

Stanford Viaduct

Built as part of the Great Central Railway's London Extension opened in 1899, it carried the Great Central Main Line over the River Soar and a road (Meadow Lane).
