There is a castle, a church, a vicarage opposite the church gates, some stepping stones over the River Wansbeck, and a few houses.
The Devil's Causeway passes the western edge of the village, just before its crosses the River Wansbeck.
Pegswood is on a small hill above the valley in which Morpeth is situated, close to the River Wansbeck and to the river Brocks Burn.
At the west end of Sweethope Loughs is the first bridge, actually a culvert, on the River Wansbeck and crossed by the minor road going west from Knowesgate to the A68 road.
