3 unusual facts about Robert Ropner


Hartfield railway station

The station appears in a delightful British Transport Film entitled Farmer Moving South, which recounted the moving of the entire farm stock of Sir Robert Ropner by special train from Skutterskelfe Hall in Yorkshire to Hartfield in December 1950.

Preston Park, Stockton-on-Tees

The land was originally a private residence with large grounds but has since become the property of Stockton Borough Council after being purchased from Sir Robert Ropner.

In June 1890 Major Robert Ropner offered a piece of land, known locally as Hartburn Fields to the people of Stockton which could be used as a public park, providing the local council would lay it out 'tastefully' and ‘keep it forever’.
