Between 1933 and 1936, Gruenberg headed the composition department of Chicago Musical College (now part of Roosevelt University).
He created the Lawless Department of Dermatology in Beilison Hospital, Tel-Aviv, Israel; the T. K. Lawless Student Summer Program at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel; the Lawless Clinical and Research Laboratory in Dermatology of the Hebrew Medical School, Jerusalem; Roosevelt University's Chemical Laboratory and Lecture Auditorium, Chicago; and Lawless Memorial Chapel, Dillard University, New Orleans.

In 1921 she undertook a concert tour throughout North America, which included appearances at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Auditorium Building of Roosevelt University in Chicago.
In 2013, the festival moved from Grant Park's badly aging Petrillo Music Shell and its side stages, where it had been held for more than 30 years, across Monroe Street to Millennium Park, where artists appeared at several performance pavilions as well as at the nearby Chicago Cultural Center, Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University, and several other locations.
He was trustee of Roosevelt University, board member of the Chicago Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium, member of the Mayor's Commission on Human Relations, Vice President of the Jewish Labor Committee, chairman of the Chicago Federation of Labor and Cook County CIO Labor Conference, and member of the Illinois Advisory Council on the Improvement of the Economic and Social Status of Older People.
Before arriving at Roosevelt University, Zimring taught a variety of environmental history seminars at Oberlin College, and history surveys at Michigan Technological University and the University of Canterbury.
