When color scrollers were first introduced around 1980, a number of companies produced them, including: Avolites, GAM Products, Morpheus Lights, Rainbow, Rosco Laboratories and Wybron Inc.
Between 1979 and 1991 Knoetze acted in four movies, his best known role being primary antagonist Rosco Dunn, a former corrupt professional boxer turned to a military sergeant, in the 1982 Bud Spencer hit Bomber.
In February 1995 Rosco and his team headed back to Lake Gairdner for an assault at the 633.468 mph (1,013.55 km/h) world land speed record, held by Richard Noble.
It wasn't until creator Gy Waldron realized that he had found an audience with children that the character was toned down to the more comedic and bumbling persona for which he is best known; something that James Best himself had large input on, insisting that, while Rosco technically was corrupt, he was driven mostly by playful childlike naivety, he never wanted children viewing to feel afraid to go up to a lawman in the street or when in need.
Bain was then joined in the new outfit by his former bandmate, drummer Sterling Roswell (aka Rosco).
