The name of the robotic control system, ROSM, is clearly an homage to the title character Rossum in R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots), a Czech play from 1921, which first introduced the word 'robot' to the general lexicon.
In 1995, Van Rossum continued his work on Python at the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI) in Reston, Virginia whence he released several versions.
His parents, Johan van Rossum, lord of Rossum and Johanna van Hemert probably married before 1478 and were part of the lower nobility around Bommelerwaard.
