26 January — the Rugby Football Union (RFU) is founded at the Pall Mall Restaurant, which is situated near Trafalgar Square at 1 Cockspur Street, London.
The rules are based largely on the English Rugby Football Union's code, though one important difference is the introduction of the touchdown as the primary means of scoring instead of the field goal (a change that will later occur in rugby football itself).
The club is governed by the Rugby Football Union and the clubs 1st XV currently competes in National League 2 North with the 2nd XV and 3rd XV playing in the North West Intermediate Rugby Union leagues.
In succeeding seasons the number of fixtures and strength of opposition increased, and in May 1981 the club was elected to the Rugby Football Union.
