Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on its own dates back to the 11th century and was addressed by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and Saint Gertrude in the 12th and 13th centuries.
The friary was dedicated to Saint Mary of Consolation and lay across from the Chapel of Saint Gertrude which had been built about 1330.
The local church is dedicated to Saint Gertrude and stands on the western slope of Mount Tošč (1021 m).
Saint Gertrude was one of the patron saints of travellers and merchants.
