Shortly before the album's recording, Hartman moved from the Schoolhouse, which he rented, and bought his own house, built on multi-levels, on the banks of the Saugatuck River in Westport.
For over twenty five years, he has been working to restore rivers to their natural state and conserve water for human use including (but not limited to) the Quinebaug River, Fort River, Saugatuck River & Aspetuck River, Eightmile River (Connecticut River), and Delaware River.

Professor Alexander C. Twining of Yale University surveyed a route to follow the Saugatuck River to a spot near Compo Point in Westport and another route to a spot near Wilson's Point in South Norwalk.
