On October 17, 1909, in Aracaju, the club was founded by dissidents of Cotingüiba Esporte Clube (Cotingüiba was founded on October 10, 1909, and was the first club in Aracaju (named after the Cotinguiba River) who wanted to name the team after the Sergipe River river that passes through the capital Aracaju.
