Basin Head is home to Basin Head Provincial Park, which hosts a fisheries museum and a popular beach, Singing Sands Beach, which was on the short list but was not named one of the Seven Wonders of Canada.
In 2007, the memorial was a short listed selection for the Seven Wonders of Canada.
In 2007, he served as one of three judges for the CBC's Seven Wonders of Canada competition and co-produced his son, Connor McGuire's first solo album, Different After Dawn.
