In 2002 Sir Derek Bibby, 2nd baronet, and great-great-grandson of the founder and past chairman and president of the firm, was aged 80 and terminally ill with leukemia.
The property had been taken from Roger O'Shaughnessy by King William III in 1690, and given to Thomas Prendergast in 1697.
He was rewarded with a grant from the Treasury and the Gort estate in County Galway, which was forfeited by the O'Shaughnessy family.
