In 2002 Sir Derek Bibby, 2nd baronet, and great-great-grandson of the founder and past chairman and president of the firm, was aged 80 and terminally ill with leukemia.
In 1856, in order to distinguish it from another settlement called Wellington in Prince Edward County, the village was renamed Kars - a name chosen to commemorate the siege of the Turkish town of Kars and the Canadian-born General William Fenwick Williams who had undertaken its defense.
In June 1684, allegations were made against him that he had libelled the Duke of York (later James II & VII) for authorizing, as Speaker, the publication of Thomas Dangerfield's Information in 1680.
