This family were early American pioneers moving west, from Sweden, to Bergholm in Wapello, Iowa, with a short period in Oregon to finally settle in the beautiful Skagit Valley at Pleasant Ridge, La Conner, Skagit County, Washington.
His senior year Hein earned the Skagit County Football MVP, the highest award for a prep player in the Skagit Valley in those days.
