Simmenthal defeated Slavia PRague 77–72 in the final of the first ever Final four held in the competition, with two venues used:a venue in Milan and the Palazzo dello sport arena in Bologna, Italy.
On 11 July 2009, Digão was handed a one-week trial with newly promoted Bundesliga side SC Freiburg, joining the team in the pre-season training camp in Schruns, Austria and playing 30 minutes in a friendly with Slavia Prague, as a substitute.
The local football team SK Převýšov rose to national attention in 2011 after defeating Slavia Prague 3-0 in a cup tie.
It also reached the final in 1976 and 1981, but lost to Slavia Prague and Spartak Moscow.
