From 1943 to 1944 Niehoff managed the South Bend Blue Sox, a team that included talented players as Bonnie Baker, Doris Barr and Dottie Schroeder (the only woman who played every season of the AAGPBL).
At 15, Brumfield entered the league in 1947 with the South Bend Blue Sox, a squad managed by Chet Grant, a former Notre Dame football player and the sports editor for the South Bend Tribune.
A native of Mansfield, Ohio, Mary Holda was one of the original South Bend Blue Sox founding members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in its 1943 inaugural season.
