The tenth Earl was involved in British politics and unsuccessfully contested South Dorset in the 1964 general election as a Liberal.
Drax is the grandson of Adm The Hon Sir Reginald Drax, the younger son of the 17th Baron of Dunsany and he is also the grandson of Lt Gen The Lord Weeks and is now Conservative MP for South Dorset.
Joyce now splits his time between homes and studios in South Dorset and Bouin, Vendée, Western France.
The current MP for South Dorset is Richard Drax, a member of the Conservative Party, who was voted in during the 2010 General Election, beating the incumbent Labour MP Jim Knight.
