Notable red spruce forests can be seen at Gaudineer Scenic Area, a virgin red spruce forest located in West Virginia, the Canaan Valley, Roaring Plains West Wilderness, Dolly Sods Wilderness, Spruce Mountain and Spruce Knob all also in West Virginia and all sites of former extensive red spruce forest.

To the north is Spruce Mountain, attached to the southwest of the Pequop Mountains; Goshute Valley lies east of the Pequop's but turns southwest at the northeast foothills border of the Cherry Creek Range, the location of Currie.
Notable peaks include Haystack Mountain and Mount Snow in Vermont and Spruce Mountain in Massachusetts, as well as the Berkshires high point, Crum Hill, in the town of Monroe, Massachusetts.
