The plan considers several land and sea options for the attack and concludes that a landing at St. Margarets Bay, a then undeveloped bay near Halifax, would be superior to a direct assault via the longer overland route.

The coast, which is mostly rock with small isolated sand beaches in sheltered bays, is heavily indented by numerous inlets the largest of which are St. Margarets Bay, Halifax Harbour, Cole Harbour, Musquodoboit Harbour, Jeddore Harbour, Ship Harbour and Sheet Harbour.
The park is also serviced by Metro Transit buses: 21 Timberlea, 23 Timberlea (rush hour only at St. Margarets Bay Rd and Lakelands Blvd), and 52 Crosstown.
