The wide flat plateau of the Maniototo which lies between the upper reaches of the Taieri River and the Clutha's northern tributary the Manuherikia is also usually considered part of Central Otago.
The swamp is drained by the Logan Burn, which feeds into the Taieri River at Paerau.
Two bridges were required during construction, the 67 metre Taieri River bridge near Outram, and a 42 metre bridge across the Silver Stream.
