The original group released their first single in 1993, on the soundtrack to the Universal Pictures comedy CB4 (starring Chris Rock) titled "Baby Be Mine", featuring Joseph Stonestreet on lead, produced by Teddy Riley, and written by Teddy Riley and Joseph Stonestreet.

Mark Middleton and Eric Williams left the group due to disagreements regarding money distribution.

The first single from their third album, "Girlfriend/Boyfriend", a collaboration with Janet Jackson featuring Ja Rule and Eve – Blackstreet finally had a top ten album with Finally.

After rumors of legal action and a preemptive countersuit, the group re-banded and released Level II in 2003 (see 2003 in music).

Mark Middleton

In 2006 Teddy Riley, Mark Middleton, and Eric Williams reformed Blackstreet with new member J-Stylz and joined the New Jack Reunion Tour, which Riley created along with Tony! Toni! Tone!, After 7, SWV, and Riley's earlier group, Guy.

Middleton along with Eric Williams made their debut's with Blackstreet on the first single from their second album Another Level in the summer of 1996 called "No Diggity" featuring West Coast rapper Dr. Dre and Teddy Riley's protégé female rapper Queen Pen.

In 2010, Blackstreet Capital purchased S.C.-based Park Seed Company for $13 million.

No Diggity: The Very Best of Blackstreet

It features songs from their time with Interscope Records, but the album does not contain two of their biggest hits, "Take Me There" with Mýa, Mase, & Blinky Blink from The Rugrats Movie soundtrack and the remix to "I Get Lonely" by Janet Jackson.

Toss It Up

Originally, Dr. Dre was going to use the beat from No Diggity, a song by Blackstreet but when Dre left Death Row Records he sold the beat to Blackstreet which angered rapper 2Pac.
