His desire to establish photography as an art form saw him institute an annual award at the prestigious Institute of Journalism at Taras Shevchenko Kiev University.
He graduated from the Central Komsomol School department of journalism in 1956 and from the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University history department in 1961.
In 1985 graduated from faculty of cybernetics in Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv (specialty «Economic Cybernetics», qualification «economist-mathematician»).
