AOLByPhone was initiatally championed at AOL by Ted Leonsis, and AOLByPhone was once one of AOL's "web properties" along with MapQuest, Moviefone, Digital City and others.
Ted Leonsis, who bought the Capitals in 1999, began looking to build a new practice facility and in 2004, the team secured agreements with Arlington County to build a new rink on top of the Ballston Public Parking Garage.
The team is owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment (led by Ted Leonsis), who also owns the Mystics' NBA counterpart, the Washington Wizards.

The party did not nominate candidates for statewide office in the 2009 state elections, but had attempted to draft Washington Capitals hockey team owner Ted Leonsis as the gubernatorial candidate.
