Most of the interviews take place at pubs or venues of Liverpool, but also there are a few interviews that have been recorded in Manchester (with The Buzzcocks, The Vaccines and I Am Kloot), Sheffield (Supergrass), London (Los Updates), Paris (Paris Combo) and Granada (Niños Mutantes).
The Scavengers are regarded as New Zealand's equivalent of the Buzzcocks, with the Perry co-penned song "Mysterex" regarded as one of the country's best and most distinctive punk-rock singles.
In eleven years, Mach Pelican played 800 shows, touring with bands such as The Buzzcocks, Radio Birdman, Rancid, The Hard Ons, Butthole Surfers, Guitar Wolf, Supersnazz, The Donnas, You Am I, The Spazzys and The Porkers.
It also has cameo appearances from past pop and rock stars such as Mike Peters (The Alarm ), Steve Diggle (The Buzzcocks), Jynine James and Tim Sanders (The City Zones).
The first was at Get Loaded in the Park festival in Cardiff, and then on a weekly basis, as part of "Another Music = Another Kitchen" (named after a song by the Buzzcocks), at the Proud Gallery nightclub in Camden, London.
The label was founded and run by Carol Wilson, who had previously discovered Sting and signed him to Virgin's music publishing company, together with the Buzzcocks, The Human League, J. J. Cale and Tom Petty.
The image on the sleeve of the Deny LP is not actually Johnny, rather Ex Pistols associate Tony Barber (of the Buzzcocks), who resembles John Lydon.
The book also traces the history of pop music in Manchester, starting with skiffle in 1957, running through the sixties, before coming to an angry explosion with the punk of 1977 and the Buzzcocks.
Along with a number of other friends of then-manager Richard Boon he helped finance the start-up of record label New Hormones and the release of the influential Spiral Scratch (EP) by the Buzzcocks.
The band was formed in 1989 by former Turning Blue singer John Matthews, along with former Buzzcocks F.O.C. members Andy Couzens (guitar, also formerly of The Stone Roses and pre-Roses bands The Patrol and Waterfront), Simon Davies (bass), and drummer Chris Goodwin (also formerly of Inspiral Carpets), when Steve Diggle left Buzzcocks F.O.C. to reform the Buzzcocks.
