This was in contrast to the reinvention of Super Fresh beginning in the early 1990s, a chain which itself was spun off from A&P's Philadelphia division in 1982.
Bokar Coffee was a dark roasted coffee brand of Eight O'Clock Coffee, which began being sold by the American supermarket chain A&P in 1919.
The older building apparently survived beyond its days as a church and was then used as an A&P store.
Among the first stores in the small complex were a Sanitary Food Store and an A & P Grocery, a pharmacy, Homewood Hardware, Knife & Fork Delicatessen, Pat-a-Cake Bake Shop, Homewood Beauty Shop, Palace Laundry and a Gulf Oil filling station.
By the early 1930s the company had grown to six stores, and although it did not want to add a full line of groceries to its fare, competition from established chains like Acme and A&P forced it into the grocery business.
The plaza used to house a movieplex and arcade which were converted into a strip mall and an A&P.
