He made sketches for sets and costumes for various plays such as Brecht's The Good Woman from Szechuan and Fear and Misery of the Third Reich, Pushkin's The Queen of Spades, Brandon Thomas's Charley's Aunt and V.Ivanov's Armored Train 14-69.
She has also sung in many other key Russian operas: Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, Lisa in The Queen of Spades, Iolanta, Mazeppa, Ruslan and Lyudmila.
In the 1950s, she began concentrating on "character roles" such as the Countess in The Queen of Spades, Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, Madame Flora in The Medium, and took part in the creation of Dialogues of the Carmelites at La Scala, in 1957.
He conducted the first performance of the 1812 Overture (1882) and the first performances at the Bolshoi Theatre of his operas Mazeppa (1884), The Enchantress (1890), The Queen of Spades (1891) and Iolanta (1893).
During her career Bogacheva has performed at the Mariinsky Theatre and elsewhere in the Soviet Union the key mezzo roles in the Russian repertoire: the countess in The Queen of Spades, Marfa in Khovanshchina, Lyubasha in The Tsar's Bride, Marina in Boris Godunov as well as the title role in Carmen, Verdi's Eboli (Don Carlo), Amneris (Aida), Azucena (Il trovatore) and many others.
While an Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera, she performed many roles including Mascha in The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Papagena in The Magic Flute, Serpina in La Serva Padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, the title role in Rita by Gaetano Donizetti and Pauline in The Seagull.
He starred or appeared in more than 31 major films between 1951 and 2000 (with a break between 1987 and 2000), including films such as "Gadfly", "The Forty-first", Khozhdenie za tri morya ("The Journey Beyond Three Seas", also known as "The Traveler"), in which he played Afanasy Nikitin; "The Captain's Daughter", "The Queen of Spades", "Ne podsuden", "Gospodin Velikyi Novgorod", "The Young Peter the Great," "Karl Marxs: The Early Years," and others.
