Much of playwright and Iraq War veteran Sean Huze’s play The Sandstorm draws on his experiences and those of his comrades during and immediately following their unit’s (2nd LAR) involvement in the Battle of Nasiriyah.
The school newspaper is The Sandstorm, a reference to nearby Monahans Sandhills State Park, a unique geological feature and highly popular attraction.
The program was identified as a continuation of the "Deep Hurting" concept, drawing from the rock-climbing scenes of Lost Continent and the sandstorm scenes of Hercules Against the Moon Men.
