In Sydney Pollack's 1973 movie The Way We Were, Beekman Place symbolizes the Waspish cultural background of Hubbell Gardiner (Robert Redford's character) that is a continual irritant in his relationship with the Marxist Jew Katie Morosky (played by Barbra Streisand).
Alan and Marilyn Bergman have been nominated fifteen times for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and have won twice, at the 41st Academy Awards for "Windmills of Your Mind", and for "The Way We Were" at the 46th Academy Awards, both winning songs are featured on this album.
For many years, Lawrence Welk pre-recorded the music for his popular television show, becoming the most important client; in addition, in the 1960s and 1970s Annex mastered for such labels as Uni Records, Dot Records and Ranwood Records, as well as cutting early pressings of Barbra Streisand's hit single "The Way We Were." The Annex's location now houses The Record Plant Studios.
