Sutton joined The La's in August 1988 appearing in the music video for "There She Goes" and left in July 1989 after 11 months at the conclusion of the aborted Mike Hedges recording sessions for The La's.
The set was broadly praised for its selections, and for avoiding well known songs other than "There She Goes" by the La's.
The set generally consisted of old songs, including the perennial favourite "There She Goes", with new songs performed as encores.
After the show, the winner of the semi-final, "Lietuva" (Lithuania) by Deivis, was disqualified after it was revealed that the song was partly a plagiarism of the song "There She Goes" by The La's.
