On June 2, 2012, Candlemass announced via their website that Robert Lowe had left the band as vocalist, mainly due to the quality of the live performances and explained to be "a very difficult decision for the band", and would be replaced for the band's upcoming shows by long time friend and collaborator of Candlemass, Mats Levén (of Yngwie Malmsteen, Therion, Treat and At Vance fame, among others).
The album is notable for 30-piece orchestral arrangements and an uncompromising approach to production, reminiscent of concept recordings such as Operation: Mindcrime by Queensrÿche and symphonic metal acts such as Therion and Within Temptation that include a strong component of classical orchestration.
Among the bands that have played concerts at Gorbunov Palace are Jethro Tull, Einstürzende Neubauten, Diamanda Galas, Nightwish, Therion, Lacrimosa, DDT, Boris Grebenshchikov, Krematorij and others, "Nashestvie" and "Uchites plavat" festivals.
This band included all members from Evil Masquerade (except for Dennis Buhl) as well as Richard Ofsoski, Mats Levén (Therion, Yngwie Malmsteen), Snowy Shaw (Therion, Mercyful Fate, Dream Evil), Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), Glen Drover (Megadeth, King Diamond) and Tony Mills (TNT, Shy) just to name a few.
2010 saw the band begin outlining ideas for a second album, and in July issued a DVD that not only featured videos for both "6th Airborne Division" and "Night Boat to Cairo", but also included the filmed footage of the recording session with Harry Patch It was also announced that the title for this next work would be "Black Heart Of Empire" and would feature an appearance from the soprano Lori Lewis (Therion).
Lori Lewis is an American opera singer currently residing in Salem, Oregon graduate in the University of Kansas, she is a vocalist and official member of the band Therion.
The album was also produced by Malmsteen himself, who also served as engineer, and was mixed by Roy Z (of Bruce Dickinson and Halford fame) and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (of Halford, Lita Ford, Therion fame).
"The Wand of Abaris / Path to Arcady" is title of club and radio promotional single of Swedish symphonic metal band Therion from Gothic Kabbalah studio album released in 2007.
Karlsson is the lead vocalist of the symphonic death metal band Shadowseeds along with fellow Dragon Rouge member Tommie Eriksson, who also was Therion's guitarist and drummer.
