According to the Catholic Encyclopedia ("Theories of Overpopulation"), Nitti (Population and the Social System, 1894) was a staunch critic of English economist Thomas Robert Malthus and his Principle of Population.
In modern times, he is best remembered for his essay Zhi Ping Pian (治平篇, On Governance and Well-beings of the Empire) on population growth and its sociopolitical consequence, in which he raised many of the same issues that were raised by Malthus writing during the same period in England.
Players need to carefully manage food (cows, dariy, grain), population, and happiness levels whilst avoiding Malthusian population meltdowns or other players invading your county.
