Aerosmith had hoped to spend much of 2006 recording material for a new album, but the band had been hit with a number of setbacks during the year, including lead singer Steven Tyler requiring throat surgery in March 2006, bassist Tom Hamilton recovering from treatment for throat cancer, and conflict with their record company.
Brownstein also leads Electron (the first band to perform his rock opera, Chemical Warfare Brigade), an all star collaboration that includes Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits) on keys, Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past, Tom Hamilton's American Babies) on guitar, and Joe Russo (The Benevento/Russo Duo, Tom Hamilton's American Babies, Furthur) on drums.
