On 27 February, the NSW Liberal Premier Tom Lewis appointed Cleaver Bunton, a former long-serving Mayor of Albury, who was not affiliated with any political party.
During the premierships of Robert Askin and Tom Lewis he was Minister for Agriculture.
During his political career Morris held various portfolios in the Askin Government, Lewis Government and Willis Government including Minister for Transport (1965–1975).
His successor, Tom Lewis, didn't last a year as premier before his colleagues dumped him in favour of Eric Willis.
